El Paso native and Arizona Cardinals Quarterback John Skelton just might have found himself entrenched in a quarterback controversy. For the second straight week, Skelton, a graduate of Burges High School, led the Arizona Cardinals to victory, this time a 21-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Skelton found receiver Early Doucet for a five-yard screen pass for a touchdown with less than two minutes left for the final score. In the first quarter, Skelton threw an interception, and Asante Samuel took it back for a touchdown.
“It’s just a short memory,” Skelton said. “When you get down to the nitty-gritty, you have to put it out of your mind.”
“The way (Skelton) came back,” Whisenhunt said. “it shows he’s got something.”
Skelton's final stat line looked impressive for the second year quarterback, who was inserted into the lineup due to an injury to starter Kevin Kolb. Skelton was 21-of-40, for 315 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Receiver Larry Fitzgerald had already broken the franchise record with his 69th and 70th scores of his career. He ended up with seven catches for 146 yards.
“John throws me that every day after practice,” Fitzgerald said.
