El Paso Has An All Star

Sports

POSTED: Tuesday, July 13, 2010 - 6:37pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, July 13, 2010 - 9:14pm

El Paso has its own All Star this summer.  Ricky Jacquez represented the United States last summer in baseball and will do the same this year.  Franklin High School's Ricky Jacquez played with the U-16 USA National Team, pitched against regional rival Cuba, and helped Team USA win the Gold Medal.  Ricky will again pitch for Team USA this summer, but has also been invited to the prestigious AFLAC All-American Game.  The 8th Annual all-star game will take place August 15 in San Diego's Petco Park, and will feature the very best amateur high school baseball players in the country from the West and East Coast.  Ricky Jacquez, "Man, I just think it's an honor because I would be competing against the best in the country, and I never thought I would be in this position right now."  Franklin Head Baseball Coach Andy Powers couldn't be more proud for his senior-to-be pitcher and shortstop.  "Well, I mean you're right, it is a great honor to go to this game, this is not anything people can be a part of. This is the best of the best in amateur baseball, before college."
