Chihuahuas Win First Game in Colorado Springs

KTSM
El Paso Chihuahuas
Sunday, August 24, 2014 - 9:47pm

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning Sunday to overcome a three-run deficit and beat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 9-7. Chihuahuas catcher Adam Moore went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in the win. The Chihuahuas have won four of their last six games.

The Chihuahuas got off to an early start, scoring twice in the first inning on Yeison Asencio’s two-run double. Alex Castellanos hit a solo home run in the second inning to increase the Chihuahuas lead. After building a 4-2 advantage, the Sky Sox scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. El Paso’s five-run outburst came one inning later and was capped off by Jeff Francoeur’s pinch-hit, two-run triple.

Donn Roach and Chris Rearick pitched scoreless innings each to hold the Chihuahuas lead and Jerry Sullivan threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 11th save of the season. Sunday was the first time the Chihuahuas ever played Colorado Springs (Rockies affiliate).
