Chihuahuas rally in Reno comes up short
El Paso, TX — The El Paso Chihuahuas had nine hits and ten walks Saturday night but Reno’s pitching staff was able to leave 11 runners on base in the Aces 6-4 win at Aces Ballpark. The Chihuahuas left a runner at third base in six of their nine innings.
Reno went ahead 2-0 early before the Chihuahuas scored once in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Jeff Francoeur and again in the fifth on Travis Buck’s RBI single to tie the game. Francoeur has home runs in three consecutive games for El Paso, becoming the first Chihuahuas hitter to accomplish that feat since Kyle Blanks in early April.
The Chihuahuas were behind 6-2 entering the top of the ninth inning and scored twice on Buck’s two-run home run. Jake Goebbert walked to bring the tying run to the plate, but former Padres minor leaguer Matt Stites struck out Jonathan Galvez to end the game. The Aces have not lost back-to-back games in more than a month.
