El Paso, TX — The Fresno Grizzlies won 2-1 in 13 innings Monday in the first ever game at Southwest University Park. Travis Buck hit a solo home run in the third, the first home run in the downtown stadium’s history, giving El Paso and early 1-0 lead. Fresno’s Chris Dominguez tied the game one inning later on an RBI single up the middle. Neither team scored from the fourth inning until the 13th inning.
Fresno’s Tony Abreu reached second base with no outs in the top of the 13th on a two-base error by El Paso second baseman Brooks Conrad. One batter later, Tyler Colvin doubled to right field, scoring Abreu with the go-ahead run. The Chihuahuas had the winning run on base in the ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth innings but did not score.
Jason Lane produced a strong start for the Chihuahuas, allowing just one run in six innings of work. Reliever Tim Sexton suffered the loss, but pitched four innings without allowing an earned run.
