Chihuahuas drop game one with Reno

KTSM
El Paso Chihuahuas

POSTED: Saturday, August 2, 2014 - 10:49pm

UPDATED: Saturday, August 2, 2014 - 11:02pm

The Reno Aces hit two home runs in their 7-5 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas Saturday at Southwest University Park. The Chihuahuas had an early 3-1 lead before Dustin Martin hit a three-run, fourth-inning home run to put Reno ahead. The Chihuahuas tied the game on a fourth-inning RBI single by Tyler Greene but Reno scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings to stay ahead for good.

Rymer Liriano continued his hot hitting since arriving from Double-A San Antonio. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and is now hitting .459 through nine Triple-A games. Newly acquired reliever Stephen Kohlscheen allowed one run in his Chihuahuas debut, pitching the sixth inning for El Paso Saturday. Kohlscheen was traded to the San Diego Padres from the Seattle Mariners on July 31st.

Chris Rearick pitched two shutout innings out of the El Paso bullpen in the loss. Rearick has not allowed an earned run in nine of his last ten outings. The Chihuahuas have played a stretch of close games, with seven of the last nine contests being decided by two runs or less.
