El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Elects Five for 2011 Class

Danny Perez – Four year All-City outfielder for Hanks High School (1986-89); selected All-City MVP his senior year; made his first major league start on July 4, 1996 at Yankee Stadium; drafted by Milwaukee Brewers; played three seasons with the El Paso Diablos; outstanding three years at Oklahoma State University; first team All-Big 8 Conference his junior year.

Gerardo Cuevas – Three year letterman at Coronado High School; played for the Mexican Olympic team in the Central American and Caribbean series (1990-91); played in the Solidaridad Games and the Copa Intercontinental IBA; four seasons with Northwood University.

Lauro Felix – Outstanding player at Socorro High School; selected All-City MVP his senior year; drafted by Oakland in 1992 and played professionally until 2003 for the A’s, Brewers, Mexican and Independent Leagues; three seasons with the El Paso Diablos; played collegiate baseball at Dodge City CC, Western New Mexico, and New Mexico State.

Randy Weinglass – Umpire for 31 years at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels; crew chief for the 2010 Texas High School Baseball State Tournament in Austin; nine years as a sports writer covering high school and El Paso Diablos baseball for the El Paso Times newspaper; color analyst broadcasting Texas high school baseball playoff games involving El Paso teams on the radio and internet.

George Hodge – Four year starter at El Paso High School; All-District outfielder all four years for the Tigers; played two seasons at Sacramento City College; selected in 1970 by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round; played three seasons in their  minor league system; one season in the Mexican League; deceased in 2010.

The annual Induction and Awards Banquet will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Lancers Trawood, 3135 Trawood Drive.  The festivities will begin at 6:00 pm.
