Eastwood's Barron Signs with New Mexico St. Golf

New Mexico State women's golf head coach Paul Brilliant announced, Tuesday, June 14, that Laura Barron, of El Paso, Texas has signed a National Letter of Intent to play and attend school at NM State starting in the fall.

Barron played golf for four years at Eastwood High School under head coach Jon Stovall and helped her team to a second place finish at the Texas State Tournament this year.

"When co-head coach Jackie Booth saw her play in the state tournament she saw that Barron has a lot of room to grow as a golfer," Brilliant said. "She played consistent and was calm but competitive."

Barron earned 2011 Female Athlete of the Year after she averaged a 79 this past season, which is a ten-stroke improvement from the 89-stroke average she tallied as a sophomore. Barron has learned to play in tense moments as she made three consecutive trips to Austin, Texas to play in the state tournament.

With consistent play Barron also earned all-district and all-city honors three times from 2008-011. She credits Eastwood head coach Jon Stovall as a big influence in getting where she is now because he was there to push her.
