Eastwood aims for swimming gold
El Paso, TX — Once again, Eastwood High School is the class of 5A swimming in not only El Paso, but for the entire region. The Trooper boys won their 32nd district title, then dominated the regional meet last week, winning 9 of 11 events, finishing with twice as many points as the second place Lubbock Coronado. Eastwood is now aiming for gold with nine boys and one girl heading to the state meet this weekend.
"It's going to take a lot because I would say they are a lot faster, and we have to really pick up our game to be able to place," said Junior Leo Sanchez. Head Coach Steve Flato added, "Coming from El Paso and having nine guys, it's comraderie... When they are under pressure, they can rely on each other, talk to each other, act like they are back here at home, a better facility obviously, but just the comraderie is awesome and they pump each other up."
State swim preliminaries begin Friday in Austin.
