Dr. Bob Nichols Donates Field to El Paso Area Rugby Union
The El Paso Area Rugby Union (EPARU) is pleased to announce Nichols Rugby Field as their new home. Nichols Rugby Field, donated by Dr. Bob Nichols this week, will host its first match this Saturday between The El Paso Scorpions and the Las Cruces Horny Toads, and a scrimmage with El Paso and Las Cruces Women’s Rugby teams.
Nichols Rugby Field is located at 350 La Vina Ave, Chamberino, NM off of Highway 28 and it includes a stretch of greenery that houses the new field, bleachers, 1800 sq. ft. clubhouse and Sombra Antigua Vineyard & Winery within walking distance
Once operated, as a stagecoach depot in the early days of Chamberino later became Chamberino Vineyard—the stretch of land now used for Rugby. Dr. Nichols plans to remove 80 rows of grape vines and install a second rugby field as well a gravel parking lot.
EPARU is very grateful to receive The Santa Teresa Country Club donation of recycled bleachers from their Santa Teresa Tennis Club. Theresa Fisher, owner of Sombra Antigua Vineyard & Winery, will host a soft opening from 12pm-6pm with music, appetizers, and a $5 wine tasting or complimentary wine tasting with wine bottle purchase.
