Diablos Fall to Lincoln in front of sold out crowd
El Paso scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn’t enough to top Lincoln, and the Saltdogs cruised to a 9-6 win against the Diablos at Cohen Stadium. Lincoln scored in the top of the first inning when first baseman Phil Hawke hit a two-run homer, and the Saltdogs added two more in each of the third and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead against El Paso. In the top of the seventh inning, designated hitter Maikel Jova batted in another run for the Saltdogs, and catcher Jeff Howell drove in two more moments later when he hit a home run. El Paso scored the next four runs during the next two innings, but the Diablos still fell short. Four different Saltdogs had multiple hits in the game, and Hawke led Lincoln with two hits, two runs and three RBI in four at-bats. Kyle Nichols chipped in two hits, one run and three RBI in five at-bats for El Paso. James Garcia earned his first win of the season, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out three in five innings pitched.
