Diablos beat the Lemurs Tuesday, 6-4
Laredo, TX — El Paso and Laredo came out swinging Tuesday night, combining for ten runs in the game’s first three innings before the bats went silent for the final six innings in a 6-4 El Paso win.
El Paso scored in the top of the first on an error, but its lead was short-lived. Laredo 1B Balbino Fuenmayor smacked a two-RBI double to left field and scored on the play because of a two-base error, giving the Lemurs a 3-1 lead.
In the second, the Diablos tied the score at three with a two-RBI double from 2B Jose Garcia, who batted 3-for-5 in the game, but again Laredo answered, this time on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second that scored 2B Mike Provencher.
Diablos’ LF Oscar Mesa delivered the deciding blow in the top of the third with a three-run homer — his first round-tripper of the season.
Right-hander Santo Hernandez (2-0) won his second straight start, allowing three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven. The Diablos’ relievers shut down Laredo for the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit. Closer Marshall Shuler notched his eighth save with a scoreless ninth.
