Davis Undergoing Counseling
Senior wide receiver Evan Davis is undergoing individual counseling and is investigating enrolling in a formal family violence prevention program following his arrest earlier in the week.
UTEP Coach Mike Price also announced on Friday that Davis will continue to practice with the team, but will not play in the Sept. 4 season opener versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and evaluate it weekly,” Price said. “He is a fifth-year senior who has had no problems in the past. However, he has been arrested and charged with two misdemeanors, and it will be settled in court at a later date. Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the incident.
“Evan requested and is receiving individual counseling. He is extremely remorseful that this incident happened and is focusing on bettering himself as a person.”
Davis has played in 34 games for the Miners over the last three seasons, totaling 39 receptions for 414 yards. Off the field, Price said Davis is just two courses shy of graduating from the university.
