Romo possibly out for season, status 'day to day'

Romo possibly out for season, status 'day to day'

UPDATED: Monday, December 23, 2013 - 11:14pm

The Cowboys' win over Washington Sunday apparently comes at a high price... after an MRI today, reports surfaced that it's been determined that Dallas quarterback Tony Romo's season is over.

At his weekly news conference, head coach Jason Garrett wouldn't rule Romo out, instead saying he would receive treatment each day this week and the team would evaluate the quarterback's injury each day.

"We just have to take it day by day," Garrett said.

Romo tweaked his back yesterday in the game, and played on in a great deal of pain. In the second half he had to hop in order to make a handoff, and played with a considerable limp. He was, however, still able to throw the game-winning touchdown pass to DeMarco Murray, and finished 17-27 for 226 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Reports are that surgery is absolutely necessary on a herniated disc.

The Cowboys play the Eagles in a winner-take-all regular-season final for the NFC East title this Sunday, televised on NBC Newschannel 9's Sunday Night Football.

Dallas has Kyle Orton as their only other quarterback on their roster...meaning they'll have to come up with a backup plan before next Sunday night's game. Orton has 69 career starts and is 35-34. He hasn't started since the 2011 regular-season finale with Kansas City.
