Dakota Warren Talks About His Game Winning Kick for UTEP
UTEP improves to 6-0 in Conference USA home openers.
The Miners are off to their best four-game start (3-1) since 2005 when they also opened 3-1. It marks the sixth time in the last 46 seasons that UTEP has won at least three of its first four games.
UTEP recorded its first win over Memphis and is now 1-3 versus the Tigers. East Carolina is the only team the Miners haven’t beaten since joining C-USA.
The Miners improve to 6-10 versus C-USA’s East Division since the league’s realignment for the 2005 season. Coupled with last year’s season-ending 52-21 win over Marshall, UTEP has posted back-to-back wins versus East Division teams for the second time since joining the league (beat UCF and Southern Miss in 2008).
The 57-yard field goal by K Dakota Warren in the second quarter is tied for the fourth-longest in UTEP history and is the second-longest by a Miner sophomore. Keith Robinson holds the school sophomore record with a 59-yarder versus Rice in 2002.
Warren is the second Miner to make two 50+ yard field goals in a game since 1965. Chris Jacke hit a pair of 51-yarders at New Mexico in 1988.
Warren is the first UTEP player to make three field goals in a game since Jose Martinez versus SMU in 2008 (five).
QB Trevor Vittatoe made the 40th start of his collegiate career tonight.
Vittatoe’s 171 yards passing tonight gives him 10,669 in his career, allowing him to leapfrog past Tulsa’s Paul Smith into fifth place on the all-time C-USA passing list.
WR Kris Adams extended his streak of games with a catch to 28.
Marlon McClure established career-highs for receptions (four) and yardage (48) tonight. He led the team in receiving for the first time in his college career.
LB Jamie Irving’s 10 tackles were a personal best, eclipsing the eight he had versus NM State last week.
The three points at halftime tied for the second-fewest by the Miners in the opening 30 minutes during the Mike Price era (since 2004). UTEP trailed Kansas 20-0 at halftime in the Sun Bowl in 2009. The Miners also scored three points in the first half versus UAB in 2005, at New Mexico in 2006 and versus New Mexico in 2007.
The 13 points are the second-fewest scored by the Miners in a win under Mike Price. UTEP beat New Mexico in the Sun Bowl, 10-6, on Sept. 1, 2007.
UTEP has held three of its first four opponents under 300 yards of offense for the first time since 1991. The Miners have held three of their first four opponents to 13 points or fewer for the first time since 1987.
The Miners have yielded 267 yards in the fourth quarter this season, an average of 66.8 per game.
UTEP has outscored the opposition 49-6 in the third quarter in 2010.
UTEP improved to 2-11 under coach Mike Price when scoring fewer than 20 points.
