Since Coronado High School opened in 1962, they have had two head football coaches. They are now looking for their third as longtime coach Don Brooks has announced that he is resigning his position with the football team.

EPISD Athletic Director Ken Owens told NewsChannel 9 that Brooks is still deciding if he will retire or stay with Coronado where he is the athletic coordinator and teaches social studies.

The position will be posted to the EPISD website. Owens said they hope to have the new coach hired in a month, hopefully in time for Spring practice.

Brooks spent 35 years coaching the Thunderbirds taking over for the only other man to coach Coronado football, Jack Quarles, in 1977 leading the T-Birds to a 7-3 record in his first season.

The news comes less than a month after Andress head coach Allan Sepkowitz announced he was retiring after 36 years as the Eagles head coach.
