Controversy at the UTEP Invitational in Track and Field

Saturday, April 10, 2010 - 5:46pm

Saturday, April 10:  UTEP hosted the UTEP Invitational at Kidd Field today, and not without some controversy.  UTEP Head Coach Bob Kitchens and the Miners hosted Rice, Universidad de Juarez, New Mexico, New Mexico State and a handful of olympians and unattached runners.  The mechanical timing device malfunctioned during the meet, so officials went to "hand-held" stop watches for timing.  UTEP's Blessing Okagbare ran in only one evnet, the women's 100M, and finished first with a time of 10.70 seconds.  That would have been the fastest time in the world this year, but those are unofficial results due to the timing devices.  Newschannel 9's Beau Bagley and Javi Perez have the details.
