Chapin pair share special signing day moment

Almost a month has passed since National Letter of Intent Signing Day but a Chapin duo decided to wait until Wednesday and for a good reason. Huskies Joey Valadez and Shone Anderson well be teammates in college as well, both signing with Division II Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado.

The two football players chose to wait so that Anderson's father, Army Staff Sargent Robert Toretta, could return from his tour in Afghanistan and be there for the special moment.

"I wanted to wait for him because my dad has been the biggest part of my football career. He hasn't always been able to be there for me because of the military," said Anderson. "I honestly don't know how else to explain it than it's the best feeling in the world, my whole family being here."

His teammate knew what the moment mean to the family.

"Shone's dad being overseas was a huge factor as well. It was probably best that we waited and it turned out well," said Valadez.

Anderson says he plans to play defensive back for the Grizzlies and study sports psychology while Valadez says he will be an interior offensive lineman and a degree in business administration and management with the goal of opening a sole proprietorship of his own some day.
