Cathedral Hoops Duo Sign Scholarships

Sports
Thursday, May 3, 2012 - 6:44pm

Irish point guard, Mason Zuniga, will continue his basketball career at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois on a full academic scholarship and guard, Nikola Grbic, will continue his basketball career at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX on a full athletic scholarship.

Zuniga was a huge part in earning the #1 spot in the city for the Irish; along with his other teammates and kept that spot for 3/4 of the basketball season. Nikola, another huge part of the Irish's successful season, is a Serbian national. He grew up playing on the Junior National team before coming to the United States with his father who is stationed at Fort Bliss.

Gerbic collected numerous awards this season: All tournament at the Antonian Classic in San Antonio, MVP of the Cathedral tournament, 2nd team All-City, and posted a career high 27 points at the Rio Rancho tournament.

Both players helld their signings Thursday at the Cathedral Library.

"You know, it's really exciting, I've always seen it on TV, it's kind of cool being in the moment, it's really exciting for me," said Zuniga. Grbic added, "It's really exciting to share this day with my family, my friends, and it's a pleasure to sign to Wayland Baptist and it's been in my dreams to take my basketball to another level."
