The retirement announcement of longtime Andress football coach Allan Sepkowitz came as a surprise to one of his most successful former players. Brian Young played for Coach Sep and the Eagles in the early 90's and said he is sad to see his coach leave.

"You're not going to replace him. He's a staple at Andress. You think of Andress High School, you think of Andress Football, you think of Coach Sepkowitz," said Young.

After high school, Brian spent four years at UTEP where he was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior before being drafted in the 5th round of the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams before finishing his playing career with the New Orleans Saints where he is now a coach. But he still remembers his time with the winningest coach in El Paso high school football history.

"No matter what was going on, you could always go and talk to coach if you had any issue with anything other than football," said Young. "It will definitely be a different sight, I mean, he's been there since the school was opened. But I had a great time with him and he is definitely going to be missed. He was a heck of a coach. I'm sorry to see him go."

Sepkowitz spent 47 years coaching Andress football including the last 36 as head coach. He announced his retirement Saturday and says he will coach the team through spring football until his contract ends in June. The vacancy has been posted on the EPISD website and the search for the new Athletic Director and Football Coach has begun.
