Bowie wrestler Mayra Franco is 19-0 this season, and after last year's 4th place finish at state, the Junior from Bowie High School is dedicating herself to a state championship this season.

Franco moved from 119 pounds to 110 pounds, and has eexcelled this season, winning the Amarillo Caprock tournament by pinning every single opponent on the way to a tournament title.

Bowie Head Coach Victor Montes said of Mayra, "She's very dedicated, she gives you 100% all the time, she never complains, and you never have to worry about her classwork, she has a 3.6 GPA, so she's just a perfect athlete, she's committed to excellence all the time."

Mayra Franco added of her season, "If I accomplish what I accomplished last year, I can do better this year even at any weight class because everything is up here. It's putting the skills you have and your heart into it."

Bowie will wrestle this weekend at the Bel Air Tournament, then host their own tournament starting Friday, January 20.
