John Bohannon is a Junior Forward to be on the UTEP Men's Basketball team, and at 6-10, has usually been the tallest player on the court, let alone his team. When Head Coach Tim Floyd signed freshman Matt Willms, Bohannon's height and looking down at teammates all changed.
The 7-1, 210-pound Willms played last season at Findlay Prep, which won its third ESPN NHSI championship in four years. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for a 32-1 team that already has players signed with Arizona, Ohio State and UNLV for next season.
"It's different... You know, every team I have been on I've been the tallest guy, so it's kind of funny looking up at someone and thinking, man, that's how people feel looking at me now. Coach Floyd wanted to bring in that length, height to the squad, so I know it's going to be good for us that we're so long on the front line."
Bohannon has been told for several years now that he has had to add weight to his 6-10 skinny frame, and he has this summer, but won't tell us how much weight he has put on. Bohannon says you should expect a lot from his this coming season.
