Barron Victorious; Junior Match Play Update

Tuesday, July 13: Plenty of local golf news from El Paso. Parker Ashton of Santa Fe, N.M. and Laura Barron of El Paso, Texas won the 2010 Sun Country Junior PGA Championship, Tuesday, July 13 at Four Hills CC in Albuquerque, N.M. By winning the boys’ and girls’ divisions respectively, Ashton and Barron qualified for the 35th Junior PGA Championship, Aug. 2-5, 2010, at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The 18-year old Ashton posted a final-round 73 for a two-day total of two-under par, 142 and a one-stroke victory over Adrian Contreras of El Paso. Barron, 16, had a final-round 75 for a two-day total of 155 and a four-stroke victory over Taylar Jaramillo of Belen, N.M. Barron qualified for the 35th Junior PGA Championship, Aug. 2-5, 2010, at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
At the World Junior Golf Championships at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, Eastwood's Amber Herrera and Aries Ramirez had tough days on the golf course. Herrera shot a 9-over 83, tied for 93rd, while Ramirez shot a 20-over 94, tied for 135th. Second round Wednesday.
At the El Paso Junior Match Play Championship update, the top seeds were victorious. On the boys side, top seed Arturo Cardenas of Cathedral was victorious over Coronado's Cameron Boone, 7&5. On the girls side, Mary Morton of Coronado was victorious over Franklin's Bridget Tong, 9&8. The boys quarterfinals start early Wednesday morning, while the girls semifinals start at the same time.
