Banyard Rushes For Pair of Scores in UTEP Scrimmage
Saturday, August 20, 2011 - 10:49pm

With the 2011 season opener versus Stony Brook a mere two weeks away, the UTEP football team went through an approximately 75-play scrimmage on Saturday night in the Sun Bowl.

The Miners scored four touchdowns, including a pair of short scoring runs (one yard and three yards) by senior tailback Joe Banyard.  Junior quarterback Nick Lamaison threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to junior Lavorick Williams, and true freshman signal-caller Blaire Sullivan connected with freshman Felix Neboh on a seven-yard scoring toss.

Lamaison finished 9-of-13 passing for 118 yards as the Miners threw for 280 yards through the air.

Banyard paced the ground game with 38 yards on 10 carries, and true freshman Malcolm Trail was the top receiver with 42 yards on one catch.

"We're a strong, physical team," UTEP coach Mike Price said.  "Our offensive line is getting much better.  We're learning.  We still need a lot of work in some areas.  We didn't do well in the two minute offense.  We need to be in the stadium, running plays.  We'll spend the next two weeks cleaning things up and getting healthy."

The Miners will kick off their 94th season of football in the Sun Bowl versus the FCS Seawolves on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
