Astros win AL debut on MLB Opening Day

Astros win AL debut on MLB Opening Day

It may only be one game into the MLB regular season but you can officially call them the first place Houston Astros. Sunday night hosting in-state rival Texas to kick off Opening Day ceremonies, the Astros beat the Rangers 8-2 in their first game in the American League following 52 years in the National League.

Both teams came into the game sporting very different looks. The Astros, in addition to playing in a new league, debuted their new manager Bo Porter as well as a new uniform, logo, and color scheme. The Rangers meanwhile start the new year without Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli or Michael Young, three players very key to their success in recent years.

Rick Ankiel made the most of his first game with his new club going 1-2 with a three run homer in the 6th that put the game out of reach for Houston. The Lonestar Rivalry will take Monday off before resuming at Minute Maid Park Tuesday.
