Sports
Saturday, January 19, 2013 - 6:29pm

With the third World Baseball Classic taking place at sites throughout North America and Asia March 2-17, ten current and former American Association players are on the rosters of the Spanish and Dutch teams.

Several other AA alumni played in the preliminary rounds, which took place in September and November, and saw Spain, Canada, Brazil and Chinese Taipei advance. It is Spain’s first appearance in the WBC, while the Netherlands went 2-2 in the 2009 tournament.

Spain will play its first-round games in Pool C at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The Netherlands has been placed in Pool B, and will face Australia, Korea and Chinese Taipei at Taichung International Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan.

Per WBC rules, for players to be eligible for a team, they must either be citizens of the country, or have at least one parent who is a citizen of that country.
