Aguayo Named WAC Hitter of the Week
Senior shortstop Ryan Aguayo earned Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of Feb. 21-27, as announced by the WAC office, Monday, Feb. 28.
The Pico Rivera native helped the Aggies to a 5-0 record last week with wins over in-state rival New Mexico and Buffalo. He had a stellar week at the plate with a .611 batting average as he went 11-for-18, with two perfect games.
"Aguayo has been working hard at our system since the day he arrived here," head coach Rocky Ward said. "He is the type of player every coach wants on his team because he leads by example and is also a very humble person."
Aguayo set a career-high in game one of the double-header, Feb. 27, when he tallied eight RBI. He had a perfect game at the plate going 4-of-4 with two home runs and one walk.
Aguayo started his week with a two-RBI afternoon against in-state rival New Mexico, to help lead his team to a 13-8 victory. In the first game of the series against Buffalo, Aguayo was perfect with the bat as he was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Buffalo realized what kind of hitter Agauyo is and walked him three times in the final game of the week. He scored all three times he got aboard in that game with the Aggies winning 19-13. Aguayo now leads that WAC in hits (18), runs scored (16), RBI (17) and doubles (5).
The Aggies head out on the road this week to play in the YMBL Cardinal Classic, which is hosted by Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
