Aggies Wrap Up Weekend with 1-0 Loss to SJSU
The New Mexico State University (1-8-3) soccer team finished up the weekend with a tough 0-1 overtime loss to San Jose State University (3-7-1).
The Aggies entered the game against San Jose State after holding Utah State to a 0-0 tie on Friday, Sept. 28.
Senior Yolanda McMillion led the Aggies with two shots on goal. Junior Daisy Hernandez also notched one shot on goal. Overall the Aggies tallied six shots during the game.
"Poor defending and poor decisions, that's our biggest problems right now," said head soccer coach Blair Quinn.
The first half was highlighted by corner kicks on the side of NM State and fouls on the side of San Jose State. NM State shot five corner kicks in the first half alone, but could not capitalize. San Jose State committed seven fouls on compared to just four by NM State. The Aggies also outshot the Spartans 4-2 in the first half.
In the second half, The Spartans saw more opportunities to take shots on the goal, outshooting the Aggies 7-2. NM State again committed less fouls than San Jose State in the second half, with NM State committing eight fouls compared to nine by San Jose State.
The game ended five minutes into overtime when Amanda Heins headed the ball past goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner into the net off a corner kick by Kelsey Lord.
