Aggies Travel to Alaska for Great Alaskan Shootout

The New Mexico State men's basketball team heads to Anchorage, Alaska, for the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, Nov. 24-26. NM State meets Central Michigan, Thursday, Nov. 24, at 8:30 p.m. and then UC Irvine or Southern Mississippi, Friday, Nov. 25. The tournament concludes Saturday, Nov. 26. Check your local listings for the TV schedule. The games are available on KGRT 104 FM with the 'Voice of the Aggies' Jack Nixon, and the pregame show starts 30 minutes prior to tip.
New Mexico State Aggies
After a pair of rivalry wins, the Aggies improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season. In the home opener, NM State beat I-10 rival UTEP, 89-73, Nov. 19. The Aggies have four players in double figures with redshirt senior Wendell McKines leading the way with 18.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Junior forward Bandja Sy and sophomore guard Christian Kabongo are adding 13.3 points and 13.0 points per game, respectively. Senior guard Hernst Laroche is averaging 12.0 points.
Scouting Central Michigan
The Chippewas are 1-1 prior to their game at Pepperdine, Monday, Nov. 21. Central Michigan has three players in double figures with sophomore guard Trey Zeigler leading the way with 16.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Derek Jackson and freshman guard Austin McBroom are also supplying offense with 14.0 points and 11.5 points per game, respectively.
The first round matchup with Central Michigan will be the third in school history with the series tied, 1-1. The Chippewas won the previous meeting, 87-86, Nov. 28, 1987, in the consolation semifinal of the Hawaii Pacific Tournament.
