The New Mexico State soccer team faltered in the second match of the home opening weekend with a 4-1 loss to Weber State.

After an early Wildcat goal in the seventh minute, the Aggies kept applying pressure and knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 41st minute of action.

On a free kick from 30 yards away, junior midfielder Mary Kate Koziol found sophomore forward Layla Todd in front of the net. Both the score and assist were second of the season for Todd and Koziol, respectively, which are also team-high marks.

Before the break, Weber State responded with a goal for a 2-1 halftime advantage, and the Wildcats added two second-half goals.

"It was a weird day," head coach Blair Quinn said. "We played way better than we did Friday. On Friday, there was no emotion, no passion and no energy, and today, we had a ton of that. It was even odd to be down 2-1 at halftime. We were playing better than them. We made two mistakes, and unfortunately, we got punished for them."

The Aggies continue their home stand when they host UTEP, Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.
