The New Mexico State baseball team (30-11, 7-2 WAC) is ranked in at least one poll for the fourth consecutive week after sweeping Western Athletic Conference opponent Louisiana Tech this past weekend.
NM State is currently No. 25 in the Baseball America and in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper polls. The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseballpoll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. This season marks the first since 2009 that the Aggies have been ranked.
If the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches’ baseball poll continued, the Aggies would be ranked No. 28, just behind historical baseball powerhouses such as Georgia, Sam Houston State, Virginia and Texas. NM State was also receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top-30 Poll (April 16) and would be No. 42 nationally with 14 games left in the regular season.
The Aggies have now won the last 21 out of their last 25 games and were hitting .333 as a team in that time span. NM State is the only team in the WAC to be hitting over .300 on the year as it has posted a .319 batting average in 41 games played. The Aggies also lead the league in slugging percentage (.474), on-base percentage (.439), runs scored (385), hits (453), RBI (346), doubles (99), home runs (35) and walks (271).
