Aggies Meet Louisiana Tech Saturday
The New Mexico State men's basketball team returns to WAC play when the Aggies host Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. inside the Pan American Center. The game is broadcast on AggieVision, Comcast across New Mexico and CW (7.2). The game is available on KGRT 104 FM with the 'Voice of the Aggies' Jack Nixon, and the pregame show starts 30 minutes prior to tip. The contest is also available in Spanish on Vista 98 FM with Martin Cortez.
The Aggies are 16-7 this season and 5-2 in the WAC after a 78-57 win over CSU Bakersfield, Feb. 1. NM State has two players in double figures with redshirt senior Wendell McKines leading the way with 18.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Senior guard Hernst Laroche provides 12.1 points per game.
Scouting Louisiana Tech
The Bulldogs are 11-11 and 3-4 in the WAC following a two-point loss to Nevada, 65-63, Jan. 28 in Ruston. Louisiana Tech has three players in double figures with freshman guard Raheem Appleby posting a team-high 13.5 points per game. Senior guard Trevor Gaskins and sophomore guard Cordarius Johnson add 10.5 and 10.0 points per contest, respectively.
The Aggies have a 13-3 all-time series lead over the Bulldogs. NM State has won the last five games in the series after winning the first meeting of the season, 83-73, Jan. 7 in Ruston, La.
The Aggies opened the 2011-12 WAC season with an 83-73 win at Louisiana Tech in the conference opener for both teams, Jan. 7, in Ruston, La. Redshirt senior forward Wendell McKines recorded his ninth double-double of the year and 36th of his career with a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds. NM State had four players in double-figures with 14 points from senior guard Hernst Laroche and junior forward Tyrone Watson, which was a season-high mark. Senior center Hamidu Rahman also supplied 11 points.
McKines Joins 1,000-1,000 Club, Aggies Roll 78-57
Redshirt senior forward Wendell McKines became a member of the 1,000-career point and 1,000-career rebound club and led the Aggies to a 78-57 win over CSU Bakersfield, Feb. 1. With his 12th rebound of the game with 7:45 minutes remaining, McKines joined the elite club. He is only the second player in school history along with Sam Lacey, second active player in the NCAA (T.J. Robinson, Long Beach State) and 12th player in the WAC history to achieve the feat. McKines also had his 13th double-double of the year and 40th of his career with a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Daniel Mullings scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while senior guard Hernst Laroche supplied 10 points and four assists. For the second consecutive game, sophomore center Tshilidzi Nephawe blocked four shots.
