Aggies headed to the Sun Belt? Press Conference announced for Wednesday

New Mexico State University and its athletics department will hold a press conference on Wednesday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. with a major announcement concerning the NM State football program’s conference affiliation. The press conference will be held in the Barbara Hubbard Room, located in the Pan American Center Annex.

This event is open to the public and will also be available live on NMStateSports.com. The Sun Belt will also hold a teleconference at 5 p.m., which the media and fans can hear live before the press conference in the Hubbard Room.

In the original story Newschannel 9 first brought to you Monday night, NMSU football could be leaving the WAC for greener pastures in the Sun Belt, possibly by Thursday, according to multiple online outlets. A request for a response from NMSU has not been received as of 9:10pm Monday night.

According to online reports, the Sun Belt is planning on adding Georgia Southern and Appalachian State by mid week, then later this week, the conference will announce New Mexico State and Idaho will join the conference in football only. Both programs will play football as independents in 2013, and will participate in the WAC in all other sports.
