Aggies Complete Roster
New Mexico State women's basketball head coach Mark Trakh announced three final additions to complete the 2011-12 roster Monday including a pair of international athletes and an in-state prospect.
Incoming student-athletes Keren Mozes of Israel and Simone Ruedin of Australia each signed scholarship agreements with the Aggies this summer. They join freshman Paige Melville of Australia, another international NM State spring signee. Additionally, Maricel Medina joins the squad after leading Del Norte High School of Albuquerque to the sixth seed in the New Mexico Athletics Association playoffs as a senior.
Mozes, a 5-9 guard from Herzalyia, Israel, was a member of the Israeli National Team from 2008-10. She led the squad with 13.9 points per game through seven games at the 2010 Under-18 Women's European Championships. Mozes also averaged 6.3 rebounds per game and shot 35 percent from three-point range at the Championships last summer.
Over the past three seasons, Mozes led her basketball team to a 48-9 record, including two league championships and a pair of state cups. She was also an all-league selection as one of the top starting five players in each of the past three seasons, including Player of the Season honors as a sophomore.
Ruedin is a 5-7 guard hailing from Victoria, Australia, where she most recently captained the Box Hill Secondary College team in 2010 at Mont Albert while averaging just over 10 points to go with five assists and four rebounds per game. She led Box Hill to the National Schools Championship in 2009. More recently, Rudein was a rookie member of the Frankston Lady Blues of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL).
Ruedin earned 2010 Most Valuable Player honors in the McDonald's Cup championship game. Her squad also placed second at the state championships. In her final year she was named to the Dougherty Valley Winter Classic All-Star Team. Earlier in her career, Ruedin helped her squad claim the McDonald's Cup title as a sophomore. Outside of high school, she was selected for both the Under-16 and Under-18 Victoria Metro teams.
Medina led her Class 4A Del Norte team to an upset of the state's No. 1 Class 5A team, El Dorado, this past winter. Playing for her father's squad for four varsity seasons, she was named to the 2011All-State Second Team by the New Mexico High School Coaches' Association as a senior. She averaged 12.2 points per game for the Knights to go along with 5.3 boards and 4.6 assists.
During her junior year, she was an All-District selection. Medina led Del Norte to four consecutive district championship games, winning two. In the off-season, Medina played for the New Mexico Select team.
With the final additions to the squad, NM State now has a decidedly younger team with seven freshmen joining three sophomores, three juniors and four seniors. The first-year trio joins incoming signees Keyora Wharry and Hannah Womack from last fall as well as Melville and Elena Holguin from the spring.
