Aggies Bounce Back to Pick Up Road Win
Sports
Saturday, October 20, 2012 - 5:07pm

The New Mexico State volleyball team bounced back from its loss on Thursday with a 3-1 win (25-10, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18) over Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Oct. 20 in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.

The Aggies used a .328 team hitting percentage to move to 14-7 on the year and 8-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. Junior Desiree Scott played very efficient offense finishing the match with a .684 hitting percentage as she put down 13 kills on 19 swings. She also tallied nine block assists on the afternoon and now has 258 total blocks on her career needing 16 more to jump into the top 10 at NM State.

Sophomore Meredith hays tallied a match-high 16 kills and added eight digs, while the setting duties were split between junior Ciara Brown and freshman Taylor Livoti. Brown posted 25 assists and nine digs as Livoti came up with 19 assists and three digs.

The Aggies were dominant in set one hitting .565 as a team with only one error. The Lady Techsters committed two errors to start the set and NM State never lost the lead. A kill by junior Lauren Loerch, who finished the day with eight kills, gave the Aggies a 13-5 lead before the Aggies before winning 25-10.

NM State struggled in set two committing six attack errors and allowing 16-La. Tech kills to fall 25-18. The Aggies fell behind by as many as eight early on and could not dig itself out of the deficit. The Aggies came out of the intermission posting a .381 hitting percentage in set three to win 25-16. The set was tied seven times and there were four lead changes but NM State held the lead after a Hays kill on the outside to give her team an 8-7 lead. The Aggies would then go on a 7-3 scoring run to go up 15-10 and eventually won 25-16.

NM State closed out the match with a 25-18 win as both Scott and Hays hammered down four kills each. There were only two ties in the match and after a Scott kill took the score to 3-2, the Aggies played well to earn its eighth WAC win of the year.

The Aggies now look forward to a non-conference match with in-state rival New Mexico, Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Albuquerque. NM State reenters WAC play, Saturday, Oct. 23 at Denver.
