Aggie Receive NCAA Rings, Get Big Victory over Western NM

Troy Gillenwater led New Mexico State with 21 points and six Aggies scored in double figures in a 95-62 victory over Western New Mexico University on Monday at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.


Gillenwater scored New Mexico State’s first 10 points as the Aggies pulled away with an early 10-0 run for a 17-4 lead and never looked back.


New Mexico State (2-0) shot 52.4 percent while Western started the game 3-of-12 and finished 32.8 percent.


NMSU led by as many as 21 in the first half. The Aggies pushed the lead to 17 at halftime after outscoring Western 15-7 in the last four minutes.


Western (0-1) was led by Chad Carter’s 14 points and TJ Riley had 11.


NMSU opened the second half 7-of-11 from the field and pushed the lead to 26 in the first eight minutes. The Aggies outrebounded the undersized Mustangs 53-30 and scored 38 points in the paint.
