7x7 State Tourney Begins

Riverside, Coronado and Franklin are competing at the state 7x7 passing tournament in College Station. The 2011 Division I (Class 4A-5A) state tournament is comprised of 64 teams from throughout Texas. High schools from all University Interscholastic League classifications can qualify for the tournament at one of the 32 state qualifying tournaments held in May and June. The 64 teams are divided into 16 groups of four teams each and compete in pool play (three games per team). The top two teams from each pool advance to a 32-team single elimination championship bracket, while the remaining 32 teams are entered into a single elimination consolation bracket. Pool play begins on Friday, July 15 at 1:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played at Kyle Field on Saturday, July 16 at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
