2012 Sunland Park Racing Season Comes to an End

The 2012 Sunland Park Racetrack season came to an end today, with the Adios Amigos handicap, capping a fantastic 2012 season. Sunland Park officials say the 2012 season is up from a year ago, when a record 18,571 watched The Sunland Derby live.
Sunland Park will simulcast the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 5. Turf Club packages are now on sale. Live racing resumes in December.
Sunland Park Director of Racing Operations Dustin Dix said, "We are going to end up being up in our handle for the racing season, and in horse racing, it's tough for a lot of tracks to say that now a days, but our overall numbers should be up about four or five percent."
Mine That Bird’s victory in the 2009 Kentucky Derby carved out a “Gateway to Greatness” for the local racetrack and casino. Total wagering for the 2010-11 meet exceeded $60 million. The highly attractive Sunland Park racing product was seen by over 800 simulcasting venues across the
globe. The 10th running of the $800,000 Sunland Derby (Gr. III) was run on Sunday, March 25,
2012, won by Daddy Nose Best. Sunland Park’s signature event ranks as one of the richest Kentucky Derby prep races in North America.
