Socorro, TX - Newly-elected Socorro Mayor Willie Gandara Sr. has seen this before.
"I want you to see that trailer over there," Gandara said. "Its taking in water. This problem we've had it for six years."
The problem is everytime rain falls quickly, his community floods.
Friday afternoon it came quickly, just over an inch in less than 30 minutes.
Dozens of homes were damaged, including this one that now sits four feet underground.
Gandara was left to assess the considerable damage and comfort some his neighbors.
Including this woman who was distraught over the thought of another storm flooding her community.
Mayor Gandara says Friday's flooding is just another example of the help Socorro needs.
"We give millions of dollars away to foreign countries," Gandara said. "I don't see why the federal government and the state can't get together and the county, come up with the $13 million to build a damn up there so we can get rid of this problem."
