Fire authorities in Juarez have two big jobs tonight. They're still working to put out a fire at a maquila complex and they still need to find out how it started in the first place.
The fire is burning in three maquilas, affecting 1400 workers. By noon the fire dept. said the fire was under control but with the strong wind the situation is dicey and they're worried they may not be able to keep it under control.
Destroyed were the Dometic plant which made air conditioners and other parts for recreational vehicles, Foxconn a Taiwanese hi tech firm, and MCS which makes picture frames for stores such as Wal Mart.
The fire apparently started in the mcs plant. No one has been injured in the fire. A federal inspector said the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The El Paso Environment Dept. director says no changes have been noticed in the city's air quality since the fire started. The mayor of Juarez said this afternoon the government will help the companies so they can get back in business and open an office next Monday to help the workers who are out of a job.
