Re: Earthquake Rattles Borderland

I once commented on the lack of earthquake proof structures here in ELP and now Ill say it again, we do live in a fault zone and we do need to earthquake our city. Seismologists would tell you that the faults that run through our city have long been silent, however recent activity has proven that anything can happen when it comes to the earth. I am in no way suggesting to spend millions or billions of dollars to earthquake proof buildings for the "Big One" like Californians have, but I am suggesting that given our location along several "inactive" faults, it would be wise to bring our building codes (specially for our biggest structures like office buildings, hospitals, stadiums and bridges), up to a structural resistance of at least a 5.0 or 6.0 earthquake. This idea might be hard to sell much less accomplish but it just might might save live someday.
