An El Pasoan is at the helm of NASA's latest mission. Ginger Kerrick, an El Paso native who graduated from Hanks High School, is the flight director for the mission. The 37-year-old is the lead flight director, which means anything that happens during the mission is reported back to her and she makes the final call from Houston.
Kerrick's family watched as Kerrick lead space shuttle Endeavour on a successful launch and NewsChannel 9 was with them in East El Paso.
Kerrick's mother, Genoveva, says making it to the NASA space program is a dream that was sparked for Ginger when she was just five years old. Genoveva says after reading a book on outer-space, there was simply no stopping her.
