Sunday, May 2: El Paso's J.P. Hayes flirted with the Quail Hollow lead in the second round, but it was downhill from there. Hayes fell from third to 26th and finished today in a tie for 38th after a two-over 74. Hayes earned nearly 28,000 dollars for the finish. On the PGA Tour money list, Hayes sits in 44th place. To the leaders of the final round - Phil Mickelson was up and down all day, even forced to hit the ball right handed on the 10th hole. Mickelson is left handed, but on 13 - Mickelson for birdie from 43-feet out - he nails it! Lefty shot a four-under 68, and finished 2nd, three shots behind a 20-year old. Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy shot a course-record 10-under 62 - what a way to go out on 18 - a 43-foot putt for birdie. McIlroy won by three strokes, his first PGA Tour victory, 2 days shy of his 21st birthday.
