Santa Teresa, NM (KTSM) — U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Santa Teresa Port of Entry arrested 14 alleged drug smugglers accused of trying to cross approximately 600 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. from Mexico.
According to Border Patrol officials, agents saw a Chevrolet 2500 pickup, which was reported stolen from Canada, trying to illegally cross the border. The driver refused to stop and led agents on a chase.
The truck broke down in the desert, and agents said several people tried to run back into Mexico.
Agents from the Office of Air and Marine worked with agents on ATV's to arrest the alleged drug smugglers.
The marijuana seized has an estimated street value of $500,000.
