Las Cruces, NM — It takes a Cook to know a good cook, and that’s what’s happened at Mayfield High School Thursday as Dallas Cowboys center/guard Ryan Cook visited the school to congratulate its student chefs for winning the LCPS High School Breakfast Challenge, said LCPS Health and Nutrition Specialist Barbara Berger.
Cook honored Mayfield student chefs Amberly Walker, Angelica Hernandez and Ashley Serna, who won the cooking contest to create a breakfast recipe for a “Grab and Go” menu. The contest, sponsored by DairyMax (the local dairy council), was held in March.
Cook and the three students attended an assembly at Mayfield that also honor the school’s spring athletes. The Mayfield students’ winning recipe for whole-grain “morning glory” muffins were served at the assembly, courtesy of Price’s Dairy. The muffins also will be on the LCPS 2014-15 high school menu.
The six-foot, six-inch 331-pound Cook, 30, is a native of Albuquerque. He played five seasons for the Minnesota Vikings and one for the Miami Dolphins before being traded to the Cowboys in 2012.
