El Paso, TX — The UTEP softball team will hit the road again this week, but this time in Conference USA action to take on La Tech in Ruston, La.
The Miners (9-17, 1-2 C-USA) will open a three-game set against the Lady Techsters (8-15, 0-3) in a doubleheader starting Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. MT (game time was moved due to inclement weather.
UTEP is coming off a two-game series against New Mexico, in which the Miners won game one, 7-6, and fell in game two to the Lobos, 9-6.
The Orange and Blue offense has an overall batting average of .307 and has hit 12 home runs. Erika Arcuri is the leading hitter with a .379 batting average (33-for-87) and has passed her RBI total from last season (seven) with eight in 2014; Arcuri also leads the team with 20 runs scored. Ashley Eldridge is hitting .354 (28-for-79) and leads the team in RBI (22). Alanna Leasau is pacing the squad with five long balls and has tallied 16 RBI; while Colleen Hohman’s three home runs is ranked second, while her 14 RBI rank third. Tahla Wade is hitting .346 (28-for-81), leads the team with three triples and has knocked in eight runs.
Pitching has been suspect thus far, as Hohman leads in ERA (4.78) and Danielle Pearson is 4-7 on the season. Pearson leads the team in innings pitched (70) and strikeouts (28).
Series vs. La Tech
UTEP is 3-4 all time against La Tech. The Lady Techsters shut the Miners out 5-0 on Feb. 19, 2012. Chelsea Troupe (2-for-3) and Hohman (1-for-3) garnered the only Miners’ hits.
Scouting the Lady Techsters
La Tech is winless in conference action (0-3) so far. Kristen Miles is hitting a team-leading .338 (23-for-68), Alayna Kipp leads in home runs (three) and is tied for RBI lead with 14. Anna Cross has also tallied 14 RBI. The Lady Techsters are 3-2 at home this season.
In the circle, Pauline Tufi is 5-2, with 3.02 ERA, but has only started two games (22 appearances). Bianca Duran is 3-10 in 19 starts.
