El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — If you haven't heard of Daniel Villegas, you're living under a rock.
The 37 year-old is enjoying his second month outside of prison, after almost two decades behind bars for a murder he maintains he didn't commit.
Villegas was arrested back in 1993 after he confessed to killing two teens in Northeast El Paso. He was convicted by a jury and was sentenced to life in prison.
However, he says that confession was coerced by a police deputy, and his murder conviction was overturned.
He's now waiting to see if prosecutors will pursue a new trial.
In the meantime, he spoke with us on Newschannel 9 at 6:30.
