PATERSON, N.J. (KTSM) — A retired Fort Bliss chaplain is accused of criminally touching a man in New Jersey.
Rev. Philip Briganti, 67, is charged with criminal sexual contact.
According to Morris County prosecutors, he was officiating a wedding in Paterson, N.J. and afterwards allegedly touched the adult male on a bus traveling to a hotel.
Prosecutors say Briganti is not in custody and still lives in El Paso.
He is listed on the El Paso Catholic Diocese' website as a pastoral vicar at Saint Raphael's parish.
He used to minister to Iraq war veterans at St. Joseph's parish on Fort Bliss.
We contacted the diocese, they tell us Briganti's priestly privileges have been revoked, and is not allowed to exercise his duties within the Diocese.
