El Paso, TX (KTSM) — After only being open a little more than five years, Sierra Providence East is expanding. Wednesday, hospital officials cut the ribbon on the new emergency room expansion.
The old emergency room had twenty-one beds, now they've doubled that number of beds at the east side hospital.
"The new ER is 35,000 square feet. It is 38 beds, 3 trauma rooms and so it really expands our capacity and allows us to take care of more patients" said Sally Deitch, from Sierra Providence East.
Officials say last year along, 51,000 people visited their emergency room.
