Race for the cure is just around the corner. The Susan G. Komen Foundation in El Paso announced several changes to this year's event. One major change is a move from Cohen Stadium in Northeast El Paso to Biggs Park on Biggs Army Airfield inside of Fort Bliss. The race, which is usually held in February, will be held on March 2 this year.
Komen El Paso's Executive Director Stephanie Flora said there will also be a concert in the park following the race. The Chicago tribute band, Windy City, will perform.
The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world with well over onellion participants each year since 2005. The Race raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
Seveny-five percent of the funds raised at the race remain in El Paso to provide breast cancer education, screening, and treatment services for uninsured men and women. The remaining 25 percent goes to fund national research to discover the causes of breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.
